Field to Fabric

Join the Ulster Guild of Weavers, Spinners, and Dyers at Mallon Linen, Cookstown for their Field to Fabric weekend. See the linen life cycle from flax through to cloth, woven by the skilled hands of guild members, and maybe even have a go yourself. 

Guild members will spin flax into linen yarn and weave it into fabric on the ground where much of the raw materials will have been grown. 

An informative guided walk led by Helen and Charlie of Mallon Linen will take you from the flax fields, past the retting dam to the scutch mill where you will meet hand spinners and can try your hand at spinning flax. The spinners will show you the way flax was traditionally spun into yarn. You can then watch a hand weaver transform the spun linen into fabric. 

To manage numbers and parking at the site attendees must book one of the 4 available time slots:

Please note: 

This event takes place on a working farm, consequently dogs are not allowed.

As terrain can be rough and hilly please wear appropriate shoes and clothing.
